Government Scholarship for Students in China

Are you planning to go to study in China but you’re a little bit worry about the cost of this choice? You’ll be glad to know that there are plenty of scholarships for international students offered by several different Chinese institutions.

There are three main different scholarships in China: Chinese government scholarship, local government scholarship and Confucius Institute scholarship (which it’s just for Chinese language programs). Additionally, many Chinese universities offer their own scholarships.

According to the kind of scholarship you apply for, there are different methods and times for your application: usually the government scholarship application is open from January to March; for the local government scholarship it may vary every year. The Confucius Institute offers scholarships all year round.

Scholarships in China can be full or partial: in the first case, the scholarship will cover everything you need during your stay such as tuition fee, accommodation, living expenses and insurance. The partial scholarship will cover just part of these costs.

But how apply for scholarships in China? Here’s our suggestions.

- Most students tend to apply to as many scholarships as possible but this is not always a winning-method. Our suggestion is to choose up to three different universities that you have a better chance to be accepted and just go for them.

- We also suggest you to apply early: the application deadline is open only for a limited time, so you must to apply on time. There are too many students trying to apply and it may be hard to get feedback.

- Try to get in contact with someone from the university (or embassy) so they can check your application documents are correct.

- Be careful with all the documents: there are so many students applying so it’s important that you prepare all your application documents correctly. If you do not prepare them correctly then your application may not be processes.

When apply for any scholarships in China you also need to know no one can guarantee that you’ll get the scholarship but you can increase your chances by choosing less competitive universities. If the university you want apply for provides pre-admission letter, you must get one: students without it won’t be accepted. Last but not least here we have some of the most common requested documents for your application:

- Notarized highest diploma

- Academic transcripts

- A study plan or research proposal

- Recommendation letters

- If planning to stay in China for more than 6 months, you must submit a photocopy of Foreigner Physical Examination Form (valid for 6 months)

- Applicants with the Pre-admission Letter/Admission Letter from designated universities should enclose the letter in the application package
