Shenzhen

Shenzhen is a big Chinese city located in the south of the country, near the border with Hong Kong. It is built at the mouth of the Pearl River, on the coast of the South China Sea. This is a relatively young and most actively developing megalopolis of the Middle Kingdom. In the world, Shenzhen is perceived as an economic miracle. It is called the "city of parks and skyscrapers" and China's "Silicon Valley".  Shenzhen is the largest center for the manufacture of electrical products. The business and technology hub Chinese Silicon Valley

Shenzhen has earned the title of China’s most economically competitive city. It houses the 8th largest stock market in the world. Shenzhen has the world’s fourth largest container port and Chinese fourth largest airport for cargo.

Shenzhen is also identified as China’s Silicon Valley, being home to over 14,000 high-tech companies, including technology giants Huawei, Lenovo, DJI and Tencent. Great location

Shenzhen is in the Pearl River Delta in southeastern China, to the north of Hong Kong, with the total population of 18 million people. Access from abroad or travel within China is made easy by the three major international airports near Shenzhen (in Shenzhen, Hong Kong, and Guangzhou). It is connected by a well-developed highway system in addition to China’s ultra-efficient bullet train network.

The average age in Shenzhen is 28 years old. Residents aged 20 to 29 represent 35.77% of the city’s population. Well over 10% of Shenzhen residents have postgraduate degrees. As of 2020, the median salary in Shenzhen is 30,900 CNY per month, amongst the highest in China. Shenzhen’s dynamic nature is a paradise for young people and has become a defining characteristic of the city.

Pleasant weather all year round

Shenzhen is a pleasant place to live all year round. The city has a sub-tropical climate – so it is very humid during the rainy season (April to October). Winters are mild and a coat may be required on occasions, but the temperature rarely dips too low (never below 10 degree Celsius). Summer days fluctuate between blue skies and downpours, with temperatures usually maxing out at around 35 degrees Celsius. Shenzhen has a long mild summer and short relatively warm winter, making the city comfortable all year-round.

Cost of Living

Life in Shenzhen for a student costs an average of 25,000 RMB a year, which is about 2,000 per month. This should be enough for a tasty and varied meal, clothing, and entertainment. In many places, such as nightclubs, foreigners can not only have free entertainment, but also get free drinks.
